Hemlock Ravine Park
Entrance at the top of Kent Ave off the Bedford Highway, Rte 2. Bedford, ns A 185-acre forested habitat including a rare virgin stand of hemlocks deep in the ravine. Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, who was commander-in-chief of the British forces in the Maritimes from 1794 to 1800, created a charming retreat for himself and his mistress, Julie St. Laurent. The heart-shaped Julie's Pond, the winding paths through the woods and the little white building on the shore, once a music rotunda, are the only remaining signs of this romantic interlude. No winter maintenance on trails. Dogs permitted on leash.
